Job purpose

 

As a member of the maintenance team, the Maintenance Technician is required to perform work involving the skills of two or more maintenance or craft occupations to keep machines, mechanical equipment, or the structure of an establishment in repair. Duties may involve pipe fitting; insulating; welding; machining; carpentry; repairing electrical or mechanical equipment; installing, aligning, and balancing new equipment.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Participates in and demonstrates an understanding of safety principles and practices; follows all safety policies and procedures to support a safe working environment and grow our “Safety First Culture”
  • Inspect, operate, or test machinery or equipment to diagnose machine malfunctions. 
  • Dismantle machines, equipment, or devices to access and remove defective parts, using hoists, cranes, hand tools, or power tools. 
  • Perform routine maintenance, such as inspecting drives, motors, or belts, checking fluid levels, replacing filters, or doing other preventive maintenance actions. 
  • Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs, as necessary. 
  • Repair machines, equipment, or structures, using tools such as hammers, hoists, saws, drills, wrenches, or equipment such as precision measuring instruments or electrical or electronic testing devices. 
  • Assemble, install, or repair wiring, electrical or electronic components, pipe systems, plumbing, machinery, or equipment.   
  • Adjust functional parts of devices or control instruments, using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, or straightedges. 
  • Order parts, supplies, or equipment from catalogs or suppliers.
  • Report defective materials or questionable conditions to the department supervisor
  • Execute and document quality inspections per SOP
  • Maintain the work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition and follow prescribed safety regulations
  • Perform related duties as required or assigned by supervision  

Skills and Knowledge

 

Qualifications include:

  • Ability to work alone or as a team
  • Strong machine operation troubleshooting skills
  • Strong record keeping and self organization skills
  • Understand and follow basic verbal and written instructions
  • Effectively communicate information and respond to questions from various levels within the organization
  • Possess basic mathematical skills: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division

Education and Experience

 

  • Highschool or equivalent (Required)
  • Trade school or equivalent in work experience (Required)
  • Machine Repair experience: 5 years (Preferred)
  • Manufacturing experience: 5 years (Preferred) 

Work Environment

 

  • Regular attendance is an essential function of the job
  • Performing duties outside the normally scheduled work hours occasionally occurs and is required
  • Due to the open environment of the warehouse, must be able to work in various weather and temperature conditions to include extreme heat, humidity and cold
  • The noise level that is typical for this work environment can be loud 

Physical requirements

 

  • May be required to stand for long periods of time
  • May involve some repetitive motions
  • Utilize power tools and various equipment as needed to perform duties
  • Manual and physical dexterity needed to perform duties of the position
  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds
  • Maintain the production pace of the other team members
  • Will engage in frequent bending, stooping, squatting, pushing and pulling of furniture.
